Tungsten Lighting Portrait
For this assingment I chose Abby to be my model because I liked what she was wearing and I also liked that her hair was blonde because it would create a better contrast with the black background. Throughout the shoot, I had a lot of difficulties mainly due to the lighting. Everytime I moved the hot light I would have weird shadows on my models face and had to make sure my model was completely still when I got the lighting in the right spot. Another diffuculty I faced was focusing the camera for some reason. Our group had to do the photo shoot 2 times because all of our pictures came out blurry and even this photograph is a bit blurry unfortunately.

Northern Light Portrait
For this assignment we had to incorporate northern lighting into our photographs inspired by photographer, Irving Penn. One of the many perks about northern lighting is that it really showcases clothing and material and because of this, I chose Shannel to be my model. Before shooting, I noticed that Shannel was wearing a jean jacket and I loved the many rips and tears it had as well as how gritty the jean looked. I knew right away that I wanted to have the jacket as my main focus. As for my result I feel like I was successful because I was able to capture the texture on her jacket really well and that was my goal when going into the project.
Scrim Portrait
For this assignment we had to take a portrait using a scrim. A scrim is a tool in photography that is used to soften the light on a model or object. For the photograph I used Shannel as my model and placed the scrim to the right of her where the light from the sun was coming from. One difficulty I faced when doing the project was that i had to make sure that the people holding up the scrim didn't show up in the photograph and I had to move them accordingly. As for my results, I feel that I was successful with using the scrim because the lighting does appear to be a lot softer and the shadows on her face don't appear to be as harsh as it would be without a scrim.

Period 2 Personal Struggle and Solution
My biggest struggle that I face is procrastination. One way that I can overcome this is by getting rid of the distractions such as the television and computer and just lock myself in my room and focus on what I have to do. If this doesn't seem to work, I can also stay after school more frequently for tutoring and work on my homework assignments with a teachers assistance.
Period 2 Film and Digital Portraits
For this assignment we were asked to take portraits with outdoor lighting with both film and a basic point and shoot camera. For both of these photographs I really didn't intend to have a meaning behind them, my goal was just to take a basic beauty portrait and make sure my subjects had that "gleam/sparkle in their eyes" so they wouldn't look dead or emotionless. We also had to make sure that half of our subjects face was lit and the other half have a shadow. This is where I faced a bit of difficulty because when shooting there really wasn't a lot of light out and I couldn't use a light board to correct and enhance the lighting on their faces. Overall I feel that even with the lighting mishap, I successfully took two nice portraits of my subjects.
Period 2 slow shutter speed assignment
For this assignment we were asked to either pan, have a slow shutter speed, or do a stop motion photograph. I decided to go with setting a slow shutter speed on my camera to create a ghostly effect as you can see in the photograph. I also decided to go with the slow shutter speed because it produced the best results for me when shooting rather then the other two options. In this picture my 3 subjects are Yanel (center), Nic (left), and Nathan (right). What I wanted to portray through this piece was how some people feel lost amd alone in a fast pacing society like ours. In order to do this I had my model Yanel sit down and have him hug his legs close to his body in order to show that he is keeping to himself and distant. While he did that, I had my other 2 models walk in oposite ways infront of Yanel. I only did this to have have the sense of walking and motion in the picture. This is also the part where I had the most difficulty. When taking the picture I had trouble getting all 3 of my subjects to be in the frame. The problems were either that only 2 of them were in the frame and 1 of them was cut off because they were walking at different rates, or it was when I took the picture they were both infront of Yanel, blocking off my main subject. It all came down to a matter of timing. Overall I feel that this photograph works because I was able to capture all 3 of my subjects, my 2 walking subject came out nicely blurred and I was able to portray what I wanted to say.
